High-Visibility UV Dodgers for Low-Visibility Water Conditions

System 2 Ultra Blade kokanee dodgers are engineered to create aggressive underwater action that attracts fish from a distance. This reverse offset recurve blade is painted on both sides with high intensity UV (fluorescent) solid color. The Glow version is a highly extended glow. These ultra dodgers were designed to be seen over a greater distance and in less clear water.

Additional attraction is provided by upfront UV beads and a UV willow spinner.

Choosing the Right Color

Selecting the “right” color will make a big difference in your success:

  • There is no “right” color that will always produce “fish on.” That is because color is only a bite stimulant that kicks in when the target fish is close to the presentation tackle. The target fish is drawn into your setup because of the vibrations produced as the dodger moves through the water.
  • For these reasons it is best to have a good selection of dodgers and lures on hand. Kokanee will bite on one color only to ignore the same color a short time later. Figuring it out is one of the joys and challenges of kokanee fishing.
  • Keep accurate records of your efforts noting color, depth, and time of day to discern color pattern trends for your body of water.

How to Fish

  • Usual Presentation: 1.2 – 1.8 MPH
  • The front of the dodger is the wider end. Attach fishing line to the swivel in front of the spinner on the leading wire.
  • Simply attach your lure to the rear coast-loc swivel
  • Lure should trail dodger 6 inches or so for best action.
  • When fishing deeper depths increase trolling speed.

Use brighter UV or glow colors in low-visibility conditions and keep your leader short to maximize action. Match your lure color to the dodger and adjust speed to maintain strong movement at depth.
